On the 14th December 2017, the Irish Sign Language (ISL) Act was passed by the Dáil. The Act recognises Irish Sign Language (ISL) as the native language of Deaf people and used by the Deaf community. The State has a responsibility to provide ISL access to ensure Deaf people can participate in society.

Today, the 14th of December is ISL Awareness Day.  The Deaf Flag will be flown today at Wicklow County Council to mark this important day.

Blue is also the colour chosen by the Deaf Society of Ireland to mark this and other important dates in the community.

Show your support and wear blue today if you can.
