Wicklow County Council Library Service Development Plan 2021-25 was adopted in June 2021.
One of the capital projects it contains, is to provide an extension onto the current Ballywaltrim Library, on the Boghall Road. The planned extension is for an additional 650 sq. metres approx., over 2 floors, which would quadruple the current size and give it 800 sq. metres total approx.
It is proposed that the extension would be built on the current lawn with an additional first floor added to the east side of the current building. It is proposed that the first floor will host mainly a study area and work from home facilities, with the extension to the ground floor providing an expanded book borrowing space.
Wicklow County Council Library Services have applied for DRCD grant aid and have received “approval in principle”, with a request for architectural drawings. On the 7th of February contracts will be signed to commence this next stage.
These improvements reflect the committed staff working in the library services in Wicklow. If you haven’t visited your local Library in a while, it is well worth a visit.
Ballywaltrim Library is a hive of activity and a great asset to the community, these planned improvements are great news for the area.
