Today marked the AGM of Bray Municipal District. It was an opportunity for outgoing Cathaoirleach of the District Cllr. Melanie Corrigan to outline the highlights of her term and thank those who supported her, especially her family. Melanie was an excellent Cathaoirleach and worked hard throughout the year to represent the whole of the Bray Municipal District which includes Bray, Enniskerry and Kilmacanogue.

The first item on the agenda was the election of the new Cathaoirleach. I was happy to second the proposal of Cllr. Behan to elect Cllr. Dermot O’Brien to the role. I have had the opportunity to be taught by Dermot in Trauma Informed Practice, I have watched him put party politics aside and no participate in ‘grandstanding’, something which some of our Councillors find really difficult to achieve and watched him focus on the community. I believe Dermot will be an inclusive and committed Cathaoirleach and I wish him the very best on his role. No other person was proposed and as such Dermot was elected.
The second item was the role of Leas Cathaoirleach, and I proposed Cllr. Erika Doyle, which was seconded by Cllr. Melanie Corrigan. Erika is committed to her role and has demonstrated the strength to stand up for what she believes in and works to create an inclusive district.
Cllr. Malachi Duddy was proposed by Cllr. Behan and seconded by Cllr. Neary.
A vote was taken and Cllr. Doyle was elected as leas Cathaoirleach 4 votes to 3 votes. Cllr. Winstanley had issued apologies and was unable to attend the meeting due to a long-standing commitment.
The next item was the approval of individuals onto various committees. During the last term of 5 years, I had the opportunity to sit on a number of committees. I see this as a real privilege, an opportunity to work hard and have a real impact. Not every Councillor chooses to sit on various committees which is their decision, for me the chance to work alongside the community and stakeholders to shape out County and District is hugely rewarding.
